Kohima: The Assam Rifles apprehended an active ULFA(I) rebel in Mokokchung district of Nagaland on Thursday, following a crackdown on insurgent groups.

An official statement from Lt Col Sumit K Sharma, PRO (Defence), on Saturday evening said that based on specific intelligence, the troops launched an operation and apprehended self-styled sergeant Raghu Nath Kall of ULFA(I).

The statement also said that the 39-year-old militant is a resident of Bangari Gaon. One shot gun rifle, two hand grenades, assorted ammunition and five detonators were recovered from his possession.

Further, the apprehended individual along with recovered items has been handed over to Tuli police station for further investigation.
