Dimapur: Chimori, the wife of deceased NSCN-K leader SS Khaplang, passed away after a prolonged illness in Taga in Myanmar’s Sagaing Region in the early hours of Friday. She was 72.
Born into a Hemi Naga tribe that lived predominantly in Myanmar, SS Khaplang died of cardiac arrest on June 9, 2017 in Taga in Myanmar’s Naga Self-Administered Zone in Sagaing Region, where the NSCN-K was based during the time.
Meanwhile, the NSCN/GPRN has expressed their deep sorrow on Chiromi’s sudden demise. In a condolence message issued by the ministry of information and publicity, the GPRN/NSCN wrote: “Mrs Chimori passed away from a prolonged illness on March 13, 2020, at the age of 72. She was a strong and dedicated woman who was a pillar of support and inspiration to her husband and our national struggle for many decades.”
The message added that “her dedication and sacrifice throughout the trying times will go a long way to benefit future Naga generation”.
The GPRN/NSCN also extended their heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family. “Our prayers and thoughts are with them at this challenging time,” it added.
Shangwang Shangyung Khaplang was the president/chairman of the NSCN/GPRN before he passed away on June 9, 2017. Baba Khaplang, as he was called by many Nagas, led the NSCN-K in the Naga political issue.
