Agartala: The Centre has sanctioned Rs 365 crore for setting up an integrated check post (ICP) at Sabroom in South Tripura following a meeting with with Union home minister Amit Shah in New Delhi recently, said chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb.
Speaking in a programme, Deb said that earlier in-principle permission was given for the proposed ICP but the matter was pending. “In my recent meeting with the Union home minister in New Delhi, the matter was discussed in detail,” he said.
“I was informed over phone that the Centre has approved the ICP of Rs 365 crore under single scheme,” Deb added.
He also said that Tripura is set to receive “fastest-growing” state award on March 27 and he would be travelling to New Delhi to receive the award.
“There was a time Tripura used to get award for BPL cards. But, after formation of the new government, the state is now receiving awards in various categories like good governance, fast-growing in agriculture, MGNREGA implementation and infrastructure development. The rural development department has received altogether 13 awards in just two years,” Deb added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a letter informed that Tripura will be awarded as the fastest growing state of the country while Agartala will receive award for the fastest growing city. The award giving ceremony will be held in New Delhi on March 27.
He also took a dig over those questioning for his frequent visit to Delhi on government expenditures and said, “A section of people often raise a question on my Delhi visits and travelling cost. But they don’t count how much additional funds the state received in the last two years. An additional fund of Rs 2,500 crore came to Tripura in last two years — it has been possible following my visits to Delhi,” Deb added.
