Arriving passengers being screened at LGBI Airport, Guwahati

Aizawl: A day after Mizoram government decided to seal the international border, a probe has been initiated against a social media post which claimed that a person infected with coronavirus has been detected and was quarantined in a hospital in the state.

Aizawl district superintendent of police C Lalruaia said that the police filed a suo moto FIR against the social media post on Tuesday, which was totally fake.

He said that a rumour about a person infected with coronavirus being detected at ITI Veng locality was doing the rounds on social media spreading fear among the people.

“The media post was a complete lie as no case of coronavirus has been detected in the state till date,” he said.

He said that a probe has been launched to find the person responsible for the fake news.

According to the SP, a person can be booked under relevant sections of the IT Act and the IPC for posting and spreading fake news.

The Mizoram government would close international border with Bangladesh and Myanmar and also inter-state border with neighbouring states barring few entry or exit points.

Mizoram is sandwiched between Bangladesh and Myanmar, with which it shares more than 820 km together.

The hilly state also shares 123 km inter-state border with Assam, and also hundreds of kilometres with Manipur and Tripura.

The state border with Assam is opened at Vairengte and Bairabi, with Manipur at Khawkawn and with Tripura at Kanhmun village.

The state government also banned entry of foreigners into the state to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

It was also decided to set up quarantine camp at tourist lodge in Lengpui near Aizawl to isolate suspected passengers, who entered the state by flight, apart from isolation wards in Zoram Medical College, district hospitals, community health centres and urban centres.

So far, 67 people, who returned from foreign countries, have been quarantined at their homes as a precautionary measure although they did not indicate symptoms suggestive of coronavirus.
