Agartala: Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb has ordered for a magisterial inquiry into the death of Bhaskar Debroy, a lawyer who died in Agartala government medical college due to alleged negligence by attending doctors on Friday night.
Debroy was rushed to the hospital after he sustained serious injuries in a road mishap recently.
After meeting the family members of Debroy, Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb assured the bereaved family members that a probe would be conducted to find out if any negligence was there on the part of doctors while the young lawyer was under treatment at GBP hospital prior to his death.
Speaking with reporters, Deb said that a magisterial probe was already ordered into the death. He has also asked to submit the report within three days.
Family members alleged that there was negligence on the part of doctors on duty and health staff. Taking note of their statements, the chief minister assured them of taking all necessary steps. He also assured that the government would take stern action if any negligence is proved in the magisterial probe. He also said the matter of providing any financial or other assistance to the bereaved family is under consideration.
Earlier on Saturday, the health department had constituted a death audit medical team to look into all clinical aspects leading to an untimely death in GB Pant hospital.
The team of doctors includes Dr Sankar Debroy, Dr Biprojit Debbarma, Dr Dhruba Banik and Dr Gautam Debbarma.
The members of the committee are directed to meticulously inquire into the cause of death and also medical negligence, if any, leading to his death and submit the report within 72 hours without failure, a letter signed by Dr Subhasish Debbarma, director of health services, informed.
The High Court after hearing the case on Tuesday has ordered the police to submit all the documents related to the case on Wednesday to continue the hearing further.
