While no casualty has been reported, over 100 vehicles are stranded along NH-29, cutting of Kohima-Dimapur link near Chumoukedima police check gate
Kohima: The ongoing 4-lane road construction at NH 29 has allegedly disrupted vehicular traffic cutting off Kohima-Dimapur link, after a landslide occurred near Chumoukedima police check gate. While no casualty has been reported, over 100 vehicles are stranded due to the landslide.
Speaking with EastMojo, additional deputy commissioner of police and PRO Relo Aye, confirmed that over 100 metres of the stretch was affected by the landslide which was caused due to the ongoing road construction. He also said that if the restoration work is carried intensively, it may likely be open for vehicles to ply within 4-5 hours.
The landslide occurred around 4:45 pm and over eight machineries are reportedly engaged in road restoration work along the affected stretch, which is over a kilometer away from Chumoukedima Police check gate towards Kohima.
Meanwhile, taking to Twitter, Dimapur Police wrote “NH 29 blocked by landslide near Chumoukedima Police check gate. Light vehicles are advised to take alternate routes#Niuland-Zhadima or Jalukie-Pimla for the next 12 hours”.
With nearly 100 vehicles are stranded, the police advised a route diversion for light vehicles from Dimapur to Kohima via Niuland-Zhadima and Jalukie-Pamli. Work on four-laning of NH-29 is taken up by the National Highway and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).
