Aizawl: Mizoram government would disburse financial assistance to the tune of Rs 3 lakh each to beneficiaries under the state’s flagship programme — Socio-Economic Development Policy (SEDP), chief mininister Zoramthanga informed the state assembly on Tuesday.
Replying to a written combined question of C Ngunlianchunga and Lalrindika Ralte, both from Congress, Zoramthanga, who is also the finance minister, said the financial assistance would be disbursed on project basis.
He said that at least 14 boards have been formed to implement the SEDP.
According to the chief minister, Rs 513 crore has been allocated under the SEDP for the fiscal 2020-21. He said that the government is yet to select the beneficiaries for the next fiscal 2020-21.
Opposition Congress has been training gun on the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) over SEDP saying it failed to full fill its pre-poll promises.
The party alleged that chief minister Zoramthanga and other MNF leaders had during election campaign in 2018 promised to give financial assistance to families to the tune of Rs 3 lakh if it comes to power.
It said that the MNF government failed to give even a single penny to the families even a year after it came to power in December 2018.

The party also said the government had allocated Rs 750 crore under the SEDP for the fiscal 2019-20 and questioned the where about of the money.
Meanwhile, Zoramthanga informed the assembly that the government has not fully exhausted Rs 750 crore allocated under the SEDP for the current fiscal.
He said that more than Rs 585 crore has been spent for various projects under different departments from the total allocated fund.
