Kokrajhar: Assam’s Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) on Monday announced its sitting Member of Parliament Biswajit Daimary as the party’s candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.

Addressing media persons on Monday, Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Hagrama Mohilary made this significant announcement of the party deciding to contest Daimary as a Rajya Sabha MP from the state from the Bodo Territorial Region (BTR) for another term.

Mohilary revealed that Daimari will be filing his nomination papers for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections on March 13. He also said that BPF is meeting state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Ranjeet Kumar Dass to discuss over the matter.

He added that the BPF is all set to participate in the upcoming BTC elections and the party is working on all ground level works for going to the polls. He also said that BPF will declare the third phase of candidates’ list by March 5 in which 10 names will be released.

Expressing his resentment over the recent comment made by a high profile Assam police official who said that BTC election situation is on police officials, Mohilary informed that he will discuss the matter with chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday.

“Earlier, the BTC elections were held under the provision of the Election Commission but now, as said by the police officer, it will be looked after by the state police authorities. So I will discuss the matter with CM Sonowal, and ask him if it is true,” Mohilary said.
