Kohima: Nagaland biker Onenienla Imsong, popularly known as Onen Nenty, who became the first woman to complete a solo bike tour across the state in July last year, will now be setting her foot across the country. On International Women’s Day on March 8 this year, she will flag off for the ‘All-India Solo Bike Tour’ in Delhi.
This information was revealed after the launch of her coffee-table book which documents her journey as a motorcyclist and musician. The book was launched by Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio at his residential office in Kohima on Saturday. Speaking with EastMojo over telephone, Nenty exclaimed: “I am feeling really blessed and honoured to witness this day. This coffee-table book is not just something about my life story, it is beyond that as it talks about my passion with a mission.”
“In this entire journey, I have experienced a lot of emotions, put in a lot of hard-work and sacrifice. The book talks about how a Naga lady has braved the judgemental society by not giving up on her dreams, vision and passion”, said Nenty. She said that the book talks about how a lady motorcyclist and musician has become a hero from being a zero and how god transformed a simple person to achieve greater heights.
Nenty revealed that she was also named as the brand ambassador of Nagaland Tourism on Saturday. “It is a blessing and honour for me to be the brand ambassador of Nagaland Tourism. I will try to make the best use of this platform,” she told EastMojo.
“I will be away from home for my upcoming all-India bike tour across the country. I will take that as a great opportunity to spread about the rich culture and heritage of the Naga. I will be meeting fellow bikers during the tour and so I wish to tell them about the unique history of the Nagas and about our beautiful state”, she added.
Later taking to social media, Nenty highlighted that the Coffee table book was written by Rita Krocha and published by the Rattle and hum society. She added that she will be representing the state during the “Rape free India” bike campaign initiated by Action Against Violence to “promote gender equality, prevent rape and sexual violence” across the country, by providing rehabilitation to victims of rape, educating youth about criminal psychology and also distribute rape prevention kit.
Meanwhile, a DIPR report said that the All India Solo Bike Tour which will be flagged off from Delhi on March 8 by Union minister of textiles and women and child development Smriti Irani. It also said that Rio had lauded Nenty for advocating ‘Safety for Women’ wherever she stepped. Rio further assured the government’s support in all possible ways.
