Agartala: With approval from the government of India and Bangladesh for the newly proposed site for border haat, representatives from both the sides will visit the site for the demarcation on Match 9.
Speaking with EastMojo, sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Sonamura Subrata Majumder said that a meeting between the authorities of both the countries was chaired on Wednesday in connection with the proposed border haat in Sepahijala district.
“The place for the fifth border haat in the Northeastern region is identified in Jagatrampur (Ghosh Para) under Kathalia block on the Indian part and Badarpur on Bangladesh side. The location is around 2 km from Kathaltali market,” Majumder said.
At present, there are four border haats operational along the India-Bangladesh border. Among these four, two of them are located at Kalaichar and Balat in Meghalaya, while the other two are located at Srinagar of South Tripura district and Kamalasagar of Sepahijala district in Tripura.
“The Centre had asked to identify the location for the border haat in Sepahijala district and accordingly the location in Kathalia block was selected during the joint visit of the two sides that includes Sepahijala district magistrate CK Jamatia and deputy commissioner of Comilla from Bangladesh,” Majumder added.
He also said that to set up the border haat, as per norms, the total area has to be shared 50-50 from both the countries. The total land required is 140 decimal or 1.40 acres.
“A team from both sides will visit the proposed site and demarcation will be done on March 9 next. Both the countries have formed separate committees for the border haat. The representative from the locals, industry and commerce and officials from BSF and Border Guards of Bangladesh will also remain present,” SDM said.
A report post demarcation of the proposed site will be forwarded to the government of India and Bangladesh for approval. Once the Centre agrees with the report, work for the infrastructural development will begin.
Earlier, during the Cluster-5 meeting between India and Bangladesh in Agartala, the West Tripura district magistrate said that three new locations have been identified by both sides for border haats and a joint visit would be conducted on February 26 at the proposed site.
“The proposed sites for three new border haats in Tripura are Paharmura-Habigang in Khowai district, Bamutia-Brahmanbaria in West district and Jagatrampur-Comilla in Sepahijala district,” Mahatme said.
