Imphal: Manipur boy and country’s one of the brightest badminton stars, Maisnam Meiraba Luwang, has secured second position in the latest worldwide ranking in junior category of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) 2020.
Christo Popov from France with 19,755 points topped the world ranking ahead of 17-year-old Meiraba in the global list, which was announced on February 25.
Meiraba replaced Liu Liang of China and now holds the top spot both in Asian and national rankings.
With 15,150 points to his kitty, Meiraba continues to reign as one of the world’s top seeded junior shuttler in the international badminton galaxy , bringing laurels to the nation.
Since the successful events last year, Meiraba has steadily risen in the ranks in the junior shuttler circuit and continues to remain as one of the highly rated Indian junior shuttlers.
Last July, Meiraba won his first international singles title at the White Night Russian Junior International Badminton at St Petersburg in Russia. Since then, he has continued his stellar performance in various badminton events both national and international.
The young lad from Imphal’s Khwairakpam Leikai is currently at Haarlem in the Netherlands at the 2020 Dutch Junior International Tournament as part of the Indian junior badminton team.
The other national team players include Rohan Gurbani, Ravi, Varun Kapur, Harsh Arora, Rithvik Sanjeevi Satish Kumar, Pranav Rao Gandham and Sai Vishnu Pullela.
Later, he will also represent the country as part of the national junior team 2020 at the upcoming German Junior Open 2020 which is scheduled to be held from March 3-8 in Berlin.
Both these events are one of the top Junior International Grand Prix tournaments.
