Imphal: After receiving a heartwarming appreciation from across borders on a solidarity prayer by Nagas in Manipur for China, the epicentre of the global outbreak of the deadly COVID-19, an official video of the song titled, Empty Streets of Wuhan, was published on YouTube on Wednesday.
Written by Ngachonmi Chamroy and composed by Guru Rewben Mashangva, the song was first performed at the recently concluded annual Lui-Ngai-Ni festival, a seed-sowing festival for the Nagas in Manipur in Ukhrul district, to express solidarity with Coronavirus-affected China.
The humble act shown by the Nags grabbed headlines in both national and regional media.
In an official video which was directed by William Leivon, popular folk musician Guru Rewben Mashangva along with Somaya Rumthao, Rani Sharma and K Hoikimnei Kom gave their vocals.
In the video, the Nagamese creole which was on the original song has been replaced with Chinese and sung in multiple languages, including English and Tangkhul.
“China, be strong, be strong Wuhan,” says the heart-touching song.
“The song is dedicated to the victims of COVID-19 and in a show of solidarity prayer from the Naga people with China during this trying time,” the video says.
Here’s the complete lyrics of the song:
On the empty streets of Wuhan
Fear and despair roam
Wearing the face of Coronavirus today.
Heartache and pain
You have been through before.
Your extant culture to endure and overcome will see you through again.
We are with you ancient world.
China be strong
Be strong, Wuhan.
(Zhonggou Jiayou, Wuhan Jiayou)
