Agartala: The Tripura Opposition parties have stated attacking the ruling BJP-IPFT government soon after the Sangbidhan Bachao Manch, a joint forum of the Left Front and Congress supporting lawyers, swept the Tripura Bar Association election 2020 against the Opposition, Tripura state BJP law and legal affairs department, by winning 12 out of 15 seats on Sunday last.
Speaking with EastMojo, Congress vice-president Tapas Dey said that the lawyers have paved the way for the future fight by creating a record win in the bar association election 2020.
“The lawyers have set an example for all the political parties and the win in an indication that the BJP government has failed in the governance,” Dey said.
He also said that even after several attempts made by the chief minister and the law minister Ratan Lal Nath, they have failed to change the minds of the lawyers ahead of the bar elections.
“It is a starting of the end. This is a very significant win to save the spirit of the Indian constitution from being destroyed,” Dey added.
The citizens too had mixed responses as the results of the bar elections are widely being discussed across all platforms.
Nani Gopal Bhattacharjee, LIC agent in Agartala, said that the results of the bar elections are the result of the Centre policies like the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR).
“The lawyers are the elite section of the society and the election of the bar indicates that the BJP-IPFT government may have failed to deliver their promise made in the last year election,” Bhattacharjee said.
The major opposition CPI-M too claimed the win to be a benchmark for the people of the state, as the lawyers belong to the highly educated and intellectual section of the state.
Speaking with EastMojo, senior CPI-M leader Pabitra Kar said that the bar election should not be involved with mainstream politics but the win of the save constitution forum was because of the efforts made by lawyers to save the democracy from being destroyed.
“Those who did not support the ideology of the BJP came together under the forum ‘Sangbidhan Bachao Mancha’ (Save Constitution) and fought jointly against the hindutvavadi ideology,” Kar said.
Reacting on the comments made by the opposition parties, BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharjee said that the alliance between them was well known, as they have had come together on various occasions to fight elections jointly.
