Imphal: Troops of Assam Rifles, under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South), had seized huge contraband drugs comprised of brown sugar and cigarettes in two different operations in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district, officials said.
On Tuesday, security forces during their routine checking at Tengnoupal check-post near Sita road junction stopped a suspicious vehicle travelling towards Imphal.
After conducting a thorough search of the vehicle, the troops recovered 124 grams of Brown Sugar worth approximately Rs 25 lakh. The recovered items were being transported to Imphal, the report said.

The driver has been identified as Satminlen Kipgen of Boljol village in Churachandpur district.
The arrested individual along with recovered contraband items has been handed over to Tengnoupal police station for further investigation, it said.
Similarly, the security forces also recovered huge quantity of cigarettes near Indo-Myanmar Friendship Gate no.2 in Moreh on February 24, as per official statement.

During an Area Domination Patrol (ADP), the search team came across with suspicious move close to the border and stopped a person; however, the suspected individual dropped the package and fled away from the spot, it said.

As per the report, the team upon thorough search in the area led to recovered 23 cartons of cigarettes worth Rs 8 lakh in two consecutive days.
The seized items are under the custody of Preventive Customs Office Moreh for further investigation.
