Meghalaya chief minister visited the monolith heritage site at Mawkyrwat on Monday

Shillong: Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday visited the monolith heritage site in Mawkyrduk at Mawkyrwat area, and has decided to develop the heritage site to further boost tourism in the area.

The CM while visiting the heritage site was stunned with the similarity the place had with the Stonehenge in the United Kingdom.

Sangma informed that the government will work to develop and promote this heritage site.

“You’ll be surprised to see the similarity this place has with the Stonehenge in the UK. And I think this place has a lot of heritage to it and must be kept and developed and the world must see the kind of beauty this place has to offer,” said Sangma.

He also said, “As a government, we have decided to take this up and promote this area and this heritage site.”

Mawkyrduk is a heritage site in Meghalaya and these stones are interlinked to their rich culture and tradition of the indigenous tribe of the people in Meghalaya.
