A still from Bhaskar Hazarika’s ‘Aamis’

Guwahati: Assamese filmmaker Bhaskar Hazarika’s Aamis is on a winning streak. After receiving its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival last year, where it was nominated in five categories in the festival’s ‘International Narrative’ section, the Assamese-language feature film is all set to be screened at the prestigious Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles 2020.

The Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) is a non-profit organisation devoted to a greater appreciation of Indian cinema and culture by showcasing films, supporting emerging filmmakers, and promoting the diverse perspectives of the Indian diaspora. This year, it will be held in Los Angeles from April 1 to 15 and will be attended by Bollywood biggies like Imtiaz Ali and Anurag Kashyap.

The opening ceremony will have ‘An Evening with Imtiaz Ali’ in which he will discuss the scope and influence of his career. The session will be followed by the screening of his hit film Highway that stars Alia Bhatt in the lead role.

Aamis talks about a relationship between a married pediatrician, Nirmali (played by Lima Das), and a young Ph D student, Sumon (played by Arghadeep Baruah). The relationship is borne out of their shared love for meat-based delicacies.

Earlier, while speaking with EastMojo, actor Arghadeep Bora had said, “People really appreciated the movie and when people say that the movie haunted them after two to three days of watching it, it makes us feel really good and humbled as well.” The film also shined in the Singapore South Asian International Film Festival of 2019.
