Former chief secretary Yash Pal Singh being produced in the court

Agartala: Amid massive security arrangements, one of the prime accused of the state PWD scam of over Rs 600 crore, former state chief secretary Yash Pal Singh, was produced before the special judge Sabyasachi Datta Purkayastha of the West district and session court on Wednesday again.

According to reports, Tripura police is seeking 10 days police custody of YP Singh for further investigation.

The former chief secretary Yash Pal Singh was brought back to state by the crime branch by a morning flight from Gaziabad, Uttar Pradesh after the court allowed the transit remand of Yash Pal Singh. The family members of Singh, including his wife and daughter are also here in Agartala.

The Tripura police has deployed a number of TSR, CRPF jawans in the vicinity of the court taking no risk in the high profile multi-crore scam of PWD.

The court is hearing the argument between senior advocate Pijsuh Kanti Biswas, who is appearing for respondent YP Singh against special public prosecutor Ratan Datta.

Earlier on Monday the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) of a Ghaziabad court allowed the transit remand of former Tripura chief secretary Yash Pal Singh on Tuesday.

“Singh was detained from IRS Apartments in Indirapuram, Ghaziabad on Monday and brought to Indirapuram police station for verification. After doing all the formalities, he was arrested and kept in Kavi Nagar police station,” police source said.

A team of Tripura Police, led by Ajay Kumar Das, deputy superintendent, crime branch, arrested the former chief secretary 128 days after being booked in the multi-crore PWD scam on Monday.

Singh was absconding since October 13 after being booked in the West Agartala police station.

Singh served as the chief secretary in Tripura during the previous Left Front government and was booked along with former PWD minister Badal Choudhury and former chief engineer Sunil Bhowmik by the crime branch on October 13 last year.

Both the former minister and former chief engineer were arrested but are currently on bail after remaining in judicial custody for more than 87 days.

Tripura police could not arrest Singh even after making several attempts and were trying to search his Delhi house on several occasions.
