Imphal: On the very first day of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) 2020 examination on Monday, five students have been expelled from the examination due to adopting unfair means.

According to the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) secretary, Dr Chithung Mary Thomas, five candidates were expelled for impersonation and an FIR will be initiated against them.

The candidates which were caught red-handed belong to Lamgangmei High School at Khoupum and Thangal High School at Nungba of Tamenglong district, Khelakhong Khongjil High Madrassa and Irabot High School at Ukhongshang of Thoubal district, Ehsas STD English High School at Mayang Imphal and Songpao Lhinghat Memorial High School in Saparmeina of Senapati district.

Except this, the first day of examination (English subject) was conducted smoothly in most of the examination centers, the official said.

The Class X board exam which commenced from February 17 will be concluding on March 5, as per the report.

Conducted by the BOSEM, this year 38,664 candidates are appearing in the HSLC exam at 140 centers across the state, of which 19,040 are male and 19,624 are female candidates.

As per the report, a total of 37,358 students appeared the exam in 2019 and of which, 74.69 per cent cleared the exam.
