A printing machine used in making fake Indian currency notes

Tinsukia: The police have busted a gang involved in making fake Indian currency notes (FICN) and duping people, and arrested 4 persons in this connection from Kanchanpur village of Assam’s Nagaon district.

The arrested persons have been identified as Nizam Ali (40), a resident of Lakhimpur, believed to be the mastermind of the racket, Sariful Islam (30), Tazamul Islam (25) and Jiabur Islam (28).

Speaking with EastMojo, Nagaon SP Abhijit Gurav said that based on a source input, an operation was launched at Kanchanpur village under Rupohihat police station. “A trap was laid and a policeman approached the members of the gang posing as customer,” said Gurav.

“Two persons were caught red-handed while delivering fake currency notes,” Gurav said, adding, “An electrical instrument was recovered from their possession supposedly used for printing fake currency notes along with some original and fake 500 denomination currency notes.”

During interrogation, the duo revealed that they used to approach victims and offer three to four times money against a sum of amount. “They have been involved in number of crimes which include duping people with fake ornaments. We are trying to verify the information,” Gurav said.

“Based on their revelations, two more persons belonging to their gang were apprehended from different places in separate operations which went on till 48 hours,” he added.

A case has been registered at Rupohihat police station (70/2020) under Sections 489A/489D/420 of the IPC.

Vehicles recovered during the operation

The police have also recovered two vehicles from their possession — an Alto car (AS 21H 6930) and an i20 car (AS 02S 3561). “The investigation is on to find out if more people are involved in the gang and reach out to the people who have been victimised by the gang for years,” the SP said.
