‘Listed’ teachers have been told to immediately report to their respective schools and submit photographs as proof on all working days until further notice
Kohima: Following a verification drive carried out by the Nagaland directorate of school education (DoSE), 438 teachers from across the state were listed to have kept proxy teachers in their place of posting. The exercise is an attempt to drive out the practice of proxy teaching, in which proxy teachers are appointed by regular teachers to substitute them at workplace.
An order issued by principal director Shanavas C on Saturday said that in the verification drive that was conducted in the months of October and November, 438 teachers from different districts in the state had assigned proxy teachers in their place of posting.
Shanavas pointed that such practices are “unbecoming” of a government servant and is a violation of Rule 4 of the Nagaland Government Servants Conduct Rules, 1968. He then directed all the listed teachers to immediately report to their respective schools and send two photographs of themselves, one in front of the school and the other while teaching inside the classroom.
It further notified these photographs must be submitted via mail from the e-mail address registered with the department, on every working day unless notified further. The teachers without a registered e-mail are directed to submit the same through the concerned SDEO/DEO before sending daily reports.
It warned that failing to comply with this directive would lead to initiation of strict disciplinary action including suspension/termination.
