Aizawl: One more student has been put under home quarantine as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of deadly coronavirus in Mizoram, a health department official said on Wednesday.

He said that the student had arrived in Aizawl from China on Tuesday, after which he was screened at Lengpui Airport.

The official said that the student was told to put himself under home quarantine like other six students, who had returned from China in January and early February.

With this, at least 7 people have been put under home quarantine in Mizoram in the wake of coronavirus outbreak in China. All the students, mostly studying medicine, were stated to be fine and have no complaint of health.

Meanwhile, Mizoram health department issued a statement stating that no suspected case of coronavirus has been detected in the state till date. The statement said that except three in Kerala, no confirmed cases of the deadly disease have been reported in the country.

The statement also said that a student, who had returned from outside the state, has been hospitalised currently at Zoram Medical College due to certain illness including high fever and respiratory problems.

The statement follows rumours claiming that a suspected coronavirus patient has been quarantined at the medical college was circulated on Tuesday.

The health department statement said that the patient was not infected with novel coronavirus but has been suffering from certain illness since November. The department also launched helpline numbers 8259930355 / 7630943153 to furnish information related with coronavirus.

The death toll of coronavirus has reached over 1,113 on Wednesday with more than 44,653 people being infected. The deadly disease has spread to 27 countries.
