Kohima: The Angami Students’ Union (ASU) on Saturday issued a code of conduct for students to comply warning against any conduct of immoral activities when in uniform. Expressing good luck for the students appearing their HSLC and HSSLC examinations, it appealed the power department to “press in its maximum effort towards providing power services during the examination season” and that irregularity of power should not be come at this point of time.
The apex student body of the Angami Naga tribe also reiterated the students’ code of conduct “keeping in mind the well-being of the daily affairs of the students as it has been brought to light that various detrimental activities are being blatantly committed by the students both outside and inside many institutions”. It said that the code also covers many other factors which are contributed by the public and therefore seek the cooperation and support of every citizen.
It warned if any student is found in alcohol joints, cyber cafes or any other places in uniforms, during the school hours, the proprietors of these alcohol joints and cyber cafes will also be equally penalised, further pointing that students in uniform roaming about during school hours will be thoroughly checked and monitored.
It warned that any student in uniform found indulging in any immoral activities, will be penalise and that any form of threat or disrespect to the teachers will not be tolerated. It also warned of students forming themselves into gangs and involving in gang fights as intolerable.
Students below the age of 18 years, even in uniform, should not drive vehicles, the students’ body said. “Reaffirming the standing resolution in regard to the usage of Government vehicles for dropping and picking up of students from schools is totally prohibited and will be penalised,” the statement read.
Advising students to dress appropriately and decently, it also warned of any cases of abuse amounting to harassment of students. It said that any students in uniform who are found taking any intoxicants or any form of abusive substances will not be tolerated and that the defaulting students if caught or reported and on confirmation of such acts will be seriously dealt with.
The concession of students’ transportation fare by taxis and buses must be strictly adhered to, it said. Saying that some private colleges, schools and hostels are managed by individuals for profit and business leading to astronomical rates of fees with little or no facilities, besides imposing fines against failed subjects and absentees, it said that it such practices in some institutions are very well noted and necessary action will be initiated.
It also strictly prohibited the sale of tobacco products in and around the educational institutions and that violators will be liable to any action initiated by the union.
For the welfare of the students, it said that the tuition fee structure is prescribed by the student body accordingly: Class X and below — Rs 500 per student as monthly fee with five classes a week and minimum 1 hour for every class; home tuition rate — Rs 2,000 shall be charged as monthly fee with minimum 1 hour for every class. The ratio of teacher/students for a single tuition batch should be 1:6. It notified that the fee structure is strictly only for urban areas, but directs all its federating units to formulate their own fee structure in their respective villages and jurisdiction.
It said that timely surprise checking will be conducted and any person who fails to comply with the norms will be severely dealt with and so, requested all institutions within its jurisdiction to take note of the regulations.
