Imphal: In continuous efforts to narrow down illegal activities in Manipur, troops of Assam Rifles arrested two drug peddlers along with contraband items worth lakhs from separate operations carried out in Tengnoupal and Ukhrul districts, said an official.
On Sunday, Tengnoupal Battalion of 26 sector Assam Rifles and the police carried out joint frisking and checking at the Tengnoupal check post near Sita road junction and stopped a black colour Chevrolet Optra car on suspicion, it said.
As per the report, the joint team of police and armed forces, while checking the vehicle, recovered a suspected World is Yours (WIY) tablets weighing 3.196 kg which has an international cost worth lakhs.
The driver, identified as a 19-year-old Lutkholal Vaiphei of Moreh, has been arrested in connection with llegal possession of drugs on his vehicle, said the official.
According to reports, the suspected drugs were deliberately hidden under the driver’s seat of the car in a black bag before transporting to Imphal.
The arrested individual along with the recovered drugs and a car has been handed over to Tengnoupal police station for further inquiry, it said.
Similarly, an anti-narcotics operation carried it out by Shangshak Battalion of 10 Assam Rifles on Saturday recovered heroin weighing 10 gm in small packets from one person at Lambui village in Ukhrul district, said reports.
The operation was launched based on specific information on the illegal possession of contraband drugs, it said.
The arrested individual identified as AS Wuiwliam, 59, has been handed over to the Shangshak police station for investigation.
