Imphal: Thousands of Catholic faithfuls on Thursday gathered at Canchipur in Manipur’s capital Imphal to celebrate the silver jubilee of the Manipur Catholic Youth Organisation (MCYO), an apex body of the Catholic youth in the state.
The conference which started from January 28, under the theme ‘Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word’, will conclude on Friday.
According to the organising committee, around 2,000 youth, comprising 45 parishes and seven mission centres from across the state, have gathered at the Holy Redeemer Parish (Catholic School), Canchipur and marked the completion of the 25 years of its existence.
Since its inception in 1995, MCYO has been the centre stage in bringing the youngsters together and motivate them spiritually; and inspire them to go beyond their horizon by spreading goodness.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the event, MCYO youth director Rev Fr Jacob Chapao said, “Through this celebration, we aim at bringing all the youth irrespective of tradition, language, ethnic group and people from both hills and valley to come together and celebrate the oneness.”
“Because Catholic Church represents universal church and in Catholic Church, everyone is accepted and welcome,” he added.
Archbishop of Imphal, Most Rev Dominic Lumon, DD, celebrated the holy mass where Catholic faithfuls attended the historic event.
Addressing the event as the chief guest, minister of forest environment, horticulture, soil conservation and town planning, Th Shyamkumar, termed the celebration is to recalled of true significance of the Catholic religion in terms of rules and regulations, rituals and practices.
Catholic faith is a very unique religion that has a different identity, he added.
Extending a word of encouragement in a time when youngsters often living in a virtual recluse and faced depression, former minister Francis Ngajokpa urged the youth to interact more and find solace through friendship.
“Confidence is to be built, not to purchase and failures should not be a source of defeat but to success,” added Ngajokpa.
