Kohima: Interlocutor for Naga peace talks RN Ravi and chief negotiator Thuingaleng Muivah will meet on Thursday to deliberate on the ongoing Naga peace talks.
NSCN-IM sources informed EastMojo that the team will be led by its ‘ato kilonser’ Th Muivah, while Ravi will represent the Union government. The meeting is scheduled to take place at the Police Complex in Chumukedima, Dimapur at 11:00 am.
As reported earlier, a high-profile meeting was last held on January 18, where the NSCN-IM delegation submitted their “competencies” and their “Naga integration map” to the peace talks interlocutor.
Sources also said that the next meeting will be held after governor RN Ravi meets the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss about issues related to the talks between NSCN-IM and the Centre. According to sources, issues related to extortion and anti-social elements will be discussed during the meeting.
It may be noted that, Ravi, while conducting a review of the Dimapur-Kohima four-laning project, had revealed that the significant reason behind the slow progress and compromised quality of NH-29 was due to “rampant extortions by anti-social elements purportedly belonging to underground armed organisations”.
After a long, 22-year wait, the Naga peace talks, it seemed, reached a conclusive stage, after the Centre decided to accept the demands of the NSCN-IM, but with certain pre-conditions, in October last year.
At a crucial close-door meeting held in New Delhi on October 31, representatives from the Centre agreed to accept the crucial demands of the NSCN-IM keeping the greater interest of maintaining peace and harmony in the entire region in mind, sources told EastMojo.
The sources further said that the Centre had imposed certain conditions in this regard. However, details and road map to follow the pre-conditions will be discussed elaborately in future meetings, they added.
