Kohima: Arunachal Pradesh secured the second position in the points’ tally of Group A after the team thrashed Tripura 16-0 during the ongoing North East Dr T Ao Trophy being played at Indira Gandhi (IG) Stadium here on Friday.
Three players — team vice-captain Avinash Kharel with jersey no 8, Charu Lalum (9) and Tagru James (18) — scored hat-tricks for the winning team.
Avinash Kharel (VC) opened the account for Arunachal Pradesh in the 6.45 minutes of the match. Charu Lalum (9) increased the margin 2-0 when he scored for the team at 9.36 minutes.
The Arunachal team was leading the match by a margin of 6-0 till the lemon break. When the match started in the second half, Puji Nohag (20) increased the margin 7-0 when he scored 51.45 minutes of the match.
The totally one-sided match saw the domination of Arunachal Pradesh players as the opponent Tripura players were behaving like silent spectators.
For the winner, team vice-captain Avinash Kharel with jersey no 8 scored five goals with a hat-trick. Apart from hat-trick scorers like Kharel, Charu Lalum and Tagru James, the goal scores for the team were Puji Nohag at 51.45 minutes, Tapi Hakhe at 55.11 and 66 minutes, Tarh Dolu at 81.55 minutes and Dorjee Sherpa at 84.15 minutes of the match.
Till 5.30 pm, on Friday, in Group A, Nagaland is heading the tally with 6 points from 2 matches followed by Arunachal Pradesh with 4 points from 3 matches. In Group B, Mizoram is leading the tally with 6 matches from 2 matches followed by Sikkim with 4 points from 2 appearances.
Meanwhile, following their exit from the tournament, Tripura team was handed over the certificate of participation by the president of Nagaland Football Association along with the director of the Department of Youth Resources and Sports (DYRS).
Tripura earlier played against Manipur in the first match where it lost by a score of 0-11. In its second match against Nagaland, it lost the match by a margin of 0-13. In its third match of the tournament against Arunachal Pradesh, the team was humiliated by a margin of 0-16.
