Tinsukia: The disappearance of another 23-year-old youth, Tapuban Gohain, from Jerai gaon — the native village of ULFA-I supremo Paresh Baruah — in Assam’s Dibrugarh district has set off alarm bells among security forces.
The development comes on the backdrop of police confirmation of Gyandeep Borpatro Gohain, hailing from Chabua in the district who fled from his home on January 4 this year, having joined the banned insurgent outfit. A week later, five youths went missing from neighbouring Panitola in Tinsukia district.
Speaking with EastMojo, Dibrugarh additional superintendent police Padmanabh Baruah said, “The officer-in-charge of Chabua police station learnt from his sources that a youth has gone missing from Jerai goan under Chabua police station. It was corroborated from Gohain’s family members who told the police that he has been missing sicne January 17.”
“We are suspecting that he may have joined ULFA-I and the police are trying to track him,” Baruah said, adding: “However, there is no trace of him even six days later.”
Earlier, days after Gyandeep went missing, Dibrugarh SP T Sreejith told EastMojo that it has been corroborated that the youth has joined ULFA-I.

According to sources in the intelligence agencies, some of the missing youths have already reached Myanmar camp. “They were escorted through a ‘route’ that passes via Mon in Nagaland,” the sources added.

Bordoloi claimed in a telephone conversation with EastMojo correspondent that the youths of Assam are getting frustrated after the government snubbed the indegenious people of Assam by forcing Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) on them. How true are the claims remains to be seen.
