Guwahati: In a significant security development ahead of 70th Republic Day celebrations, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) recovered a huge cache of live ammunition from a passenger on board a train in Assam’s Guwahati station on Thursday. The seizure has set off alarm bells among the public residing in the state.
Averting a possible attack ahead of the R-Day celebrations, a team of RPF while conducting a routine check nabbed a person with ammunition from the 15960 DN Kamrup Express as it halted at the Paltan Bazar station in the city.
As per sources, the man has been identified as Abhinandan Kumar (34), a resident of Bihar’s Arwal district. He was on his way to Howrah in West Bengal from Dimapur in Nagaland in Coach No. S1 of 15960 DN Kamrup express when apprehended by the RPF team.
On conducting the search, the RPF team recovered a huge cache of arms including 320 rounds of .32 bore pistol live bullets from the possession of the accused.
Meanwhile, a case under the Arms Act, 1959 has been registered against Kumar at Paltan Bazar police station and cops are carrying out a detailed investigation.
