Tinsukia: Placards are now playing a vital role in letting people speak out their minds during mass protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) held in Assam.

In a similar anti-CAA protest held at Borguri In Assam’s Tinsukia district on Sunday, thousands of protesters raised placards scripted with their “emotions” and “anger” against the Central and state government scripted all over them.

Some of the slogans that were commonplace were No CAA, Nagrikta Hansodhin Ion – 2019 batil korok (scrap Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019), Axom sarkar hosiyaar, Modi sarkar hai hai, Joi Aai Axom.

Nearly 3,000 locals with placards in hands attended the protest meeting on Sunday

Addressing the gathering, All Moran Students’ Union (AMSU) president Arunjyoti Moran said, “We will shake Dispur and Delhi with our slogans.”

Lambasting at PM Narendra Modi and Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal, Moran alleged that CAA is a ploy to destroy the identity of Assamese people. He also said that Assamese people have the blood of great fighters like Lachit Borphukan flowing in our veins and they will not allow Delhi and Dispur to succeed in the nefarious design to destroy Assam.

“The protest and struggle will continue till the act is not scrapped,” he added.

The meeting, organised by AMSU, was supported by various organisations, including All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), and was attended by over 3,000 people.

Similar meetings are being held every day in some part or the other of Assam.
