Tinsukia: A blast was reported along the road-side near Sapekhati Charali in Assam’s Charaideo district late on Monday night, leaving a crater of over 1 ft.
The police have, however, ruled out any terror angle in the incident.
Speaking with EastMojo, Charaideo SP Anand Mishra said, “We have not found any trace of explosives, nor splinters from the spot. Prima facie, investigation reveals that this place was used to dump battery waste and garbage.”
“Some people had set fire to the garbage in the evening which might have led to the blast,” Mishra said, adding that there were no casualties.
The blast was reported along the roadside near Sapekhati Charali around 11.50 pm.
According to Mishra, minor damages to a couple of temporary roadside shops made of thatched huts near the blast site were reported.
According to sources, immediately after the blast, senior police and army officers rushed to the spot. “Officials from engineer regiment and Army’s dog squad were pressed into service. The police have collected specimens from the spot for examination,” sources said.
The blast, ahead of Republic day celebrations, has triggered panic among the local residents. However, no militant outfit has claimed their role behind the blast so far.
