Guwahati: The host state for Khelo India Youth Games, Assam, on Monday raced to the finals of the under -21 football event with a comprehensive 3-0 win over opponent Maharashtra in the match played at Sports Authority of India (SAI) Centre at Paltan Bazar in Guwahati.
Maharashtrian footballer Dipu Mirdha scored in the 32nd and 50th minutes while Assam’s fast and dynamic ball carrier, Uday Sankar Bora, scored for the home side in the 42nd minute of the semi-final game. Ecstatic after making it to the final, Bora expressed that he has always dreamt of playing for the country one day.
Sharing his thoughts after winning the match, Bora said that he has been playing football since he was 10 years old. He said that his favourite Indian footballer is Sunil Chhetri while his all-time favourite player all over the world is Cristiano Ronaldo.
“I want to play even better and have a chance to play for India one day,” said the young footballer.
In the semi-final match against Maharashtra, Bora showcased an incredible speed while patrolling the left flank as a winger.
Sharing views over his performance at the semi-finals, Bora expressed that his training drills and what was going through his mind before taking an important free-kick.
“I carry out ladder drills to improve my speed as a winger. It felt really nice to score the goal in the semi-finals. I have been supported well by the team. Before taking the important free-kick, I was just thinking about finding the back of the net. We should play well together in the final against Punjab and become the champions,” Bora added.
Young and dynamic footballer hailing from Upper Assam’s Tinsukia district has been enjoying and performing well in all his games at the Khelo India Youth Games so far.
“It’s my first time here at the Khelo India Youth Games. It’s really nice to participate in this tournament. The Assam government has supported us well,” Bora expressed.
