Assam Rifles recovered drugs worth over Rs 8 crore along India-Myanmar border

Imphal: In what could be termed as the largest drug recovered this year, troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) recovered contraband drugs worth more than Rs 8.58 crore along the India-Myanmar border on January 16.

Based on specific information, armed forces tried to stop a two-wheeler with unregistered vehicle number while crossing the India-Myanmar border. However, the driver fled away towards Myanmar side when the troops of Assam Rifles tried to intercept leaving behind the two-wheeler along with three gunny bags, sources said.

On thorough search of the bags and the two-wheeler, troops recovered 4.290 kg of suspected brown sugar worth approximately Rs 8.58 crore in the international market.

The recovered contraband items along with the two-wheeler have been handed over to Moreh Police Station for further investigation.
