Imphal: The 34th edition of the All Tangkhul Catholic General Congress (ATCGC) kick-started in a grandeur manner at Muirei village, 30 km from Manipur’s state capital Imphal on Thursday evening.

The general Congress which happens after every five years witnessed the enthusiasm of the congregation with thousands of the Catholic believers from different villages and parishes of Ukhrul district gathering and professing their faiths by praying and singing hymns.

The event also saw participation from various delegates from the state parishes, including priests, nuns and leaders of the congregation.

Old and young alike, this is one such event where the Catholic congregation of the community looks forward to attending to it given the five years’ gap after the last meeting held at Choithar village in 2015.

The event aims to revive their Catholic faith through praise and worship, Bible learning and open house interaction.

Speaking at the inaugural event, retired MCS officer TS Angelus called on to the fellow believers to step out from their comfort zone and serve God with willing heart and humility.

Besides the religious sermons and rituals, the event, which will conclude on January 20, 2020, will highlight various activities, including choral singing competition, bible quiz competition and literary meet, among others.

Of the 260 villages of the Tangkhul community, 68 villages embraced the Catholic faith.
