Guwahati: To develop child personality through theatre, Guwahati Sishu Natya Vidyalaya is all set to host 8th National Children Festival in Rabindra Bhawan, Guwahati from January 20 to January 23 this year.
Theatre groups from all across the country, including Assam, is going to participate in the festival. This year, there are nine participating groups, one each from Mumbai, Kerala, Bhopal and Delhi and five from Assam, informed the team at a press meet in Guwahati on Saturday.
Speaking with EastMojo, Manik Roy, the founder and secretary of Guwahati Sishu Natya Vidalaya, said, “We are working for children theatre. We also showcase children theatre across the country.”
“The idea came to our mind in 2010 but it finally became a reality in 2012. In the first year, we organised the festival for seven days and 10 plays came to us,” said Roy.
The festival will showcase three shows daily for four days; out of the three, one will be from Assam and the others from the rest of the states.
A seminar on children’s theatre will also be organised in the festival, where eminent theatre personalities, play writers, directors, organisations working for children theatre and other related intellectuals would participate.
The platform provides an opportunity to the children, especially from the Northeast region, a chance to shift their paradigm, and to initiate positive mindset.
