Gangtok: A Bangladeshi national was intercepted during a routine checking by a team of 41 Battalion of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) at Panitanki check-post of Khoribari under Siliguri subdivision of West Bengal on Wednesday.

According to sources, the Bangladeshi national was intercepted while trying to enter Nepal from India without any valid documents like passport, visa, etc.

The man has been identified as Md Haruna Rasid (31), a resident of Bekatari village in Gaibandha district of Bangladesh.

On investigation, Rasid revealed that he entered Indian territory on January 14 through Burimari, Changrabanda, in Cooch Behar district, along India -Bangladesh border with the help of an agent. He paid that agent 20,000 Bangladeshi taka for the illegal transfer.

Meanwhile, Rasid has been handed over to Khoribari Police Station in Darjeeling district for further investigation.
