Shillong: The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Meghalaya Pradesh on Wednesday elected its new president, Ernest Mawrie.
Shibun Lyngdoh has now been replaced by Mawrie. Union minister of state for animal husbandry, dairy and fisheries, Sanjeev Kumar Balyan; BJP national secretary Sunil Deodhar; MLA AL Hek and Sanbor Shullai were present during the election of the state party president.

On the party stand on Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), Mawrie, while addressing media persons, said that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) was in their manifesto to implement it. However, earlier, he had refused to comment saying that he had just taken charge as the new president. “I will have to speak to my party and see where we stand, though it has always been in our manifesto,” he had said.

Ernest also assured that the party is ready to take the local NGOs to meet the Central government concerning CAA and Inner Line Permit.

Meanwhile, the Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisation (CoMSO) tried to march towards the BJP office but was restricted by the police. CoMSO members were seen holding placards that read “Sanjeev K Balyan implement ILP in our state”. Another placard reads, “Tell Amit Shah to approve the ILP resolution in Meghalaya”.
