Guwahati: Assam girls thrashed Punjab 9-0 in their first match in the U-21 girls’ football event at the ongoing 3rd Khelo India Youth Games 2020 in Guwahati, Assam on Monday.
“I’m feeling really good today. It was our first match of the competition. We beat Punjab 9-0 during the match. The Assam government has really organised the games well,” said Jogeshwar Basumatary, coach of the Assam U-21 girs’ football team after the victory.
Assam started on a positive note on Day 4 of the youth games. On Monday, Gongutri Bordoloi secured the second gold medal for the state by coming out on top in the girls’ U-21 100-km cycling event.
Incidentally, another cyclist from the state — Chayanika Gogoi — picked the bronze medal in the same event. The silver was won by Odisha’s Swasti Singh.
On Sunday, Puja Basumatary became the first from the state to clinch a gold after winning in the judo U-17,57 kg category.
