Guwahati: The first month of the new decade has started on quite an eventful note, and the month awaits more cacophony, come January 22.
The date, which is seeming to be impactful, has a slew of significant events lined up. Firstly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Guwahati in Assam for the closing ceremony of Khelo India Youth Games. This will be his first visit to Assam after widespread anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) engulfed the state in December last year. Also, the first, after his two prior visits were cancelled: the India-Japan summit in December, and PM Modi’s visit for the inauguration of Khelo India.
Secondly, the Supreme Court will hear the 59 petitions related to CAA on the fateful day. The apex court’s verdict will make a crucial impact, and especially in Northeast, which is vehemently opposing the imposition of CAA.
And thirdly, the day will finally bring justice to Nirbhaya, the December 2012 gang-rape victim after 8 years, as the four rapists will be hanged to death at 7 am at Tihar Jail in New Delhi.
The date comes bearing sensational promises, which will tug the sentiments of the masses.
