Aizawl: As part of its endeavour to unify different tribes of Mizo, the Mizoram government will organise a grand Zo festival under the banner ‘Zo Kutpui’ in at least 10 different cities across the globe starting from January 9, an official of state tourism department said on Monday.
The official said that the first such festival would be held at Vanghmun, a hub of Mizos in neighbouring Tripura, from January 9 to 11.
While chief minister Zoramthanga will grace the event as chief guest, tourism minister Robert Romawia Royte and local administration minister K Lalrinliana will be the chief host and special guest of the festival, respectively.
The event will see the presence of many importance dignitaries from various Mizoram tribes and also witness cultural performance and traditional songs from various Mizo tribes from Mizoram and other Northeastern states, the official said.
He said that Zo Kutpui will also be organised in other Mizo important towns, including Maryland in USA, Tahan in Myanmar, Churachandpur in Manipur and Bangladesh. The event aims at re-unifying and strengthening brotherhood among different tribes of Mizo, he added.
The Mizo National Front (MNF) government, which preached unification of Mizo communities, has been making massive effort in this regard. The party in its election manifesto before 2018 assembly polls had said that it would make effort to unify different tribes of Mizo living in different parts of the world.
Last year, the state government had announced launching of transport service to connect the people of Mizoram with Myanmar, Tripura, Mizoram and Meghalaya. The bus services between Aizawl and Kanhmun in Tripura, Churachandpur in Manipur, Shillong in Meghalaya and Tahan in Myanmar are yet to be made operational.
State transport minister TJ Lalnuntluanga said that he has approached the Union ministry of external affairs over transport service between Mizoram and Myanmar and the ministry expressed its willingness for the operation.
