Agartala: The Tripura state government has disbursed over Rs 127.34 crore as loan among 10,231 beneficiaries for employment generation; another Rs 34.90 crore would be provided to a number of beneficiaries during 2019-2020, said chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb.
Addressing a blood donation and loan disbursal event organised by the Tripura SC Welfare and SC Corporation Limited in Agartala on Monday evening, Deb said that Tripura received a total of Rs 134.52 crore from the national corporation at 3% interest rate and the SC corporation is providing financial assistance to students in 16 different categories.
Loans amounting to Rs 3.25 crore were distributed among 122 beneficiaries during the event.
On benefits rolled out to people belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Deb said 1,395 youths would receive loans amounting Rs 34.90 crore during 2019-20 beside construction of hostels and scholarship for students at various levels. Loans amounting to Rs 13.92 crore have already been sanctioned which will be given to 500 unemployed SC youths of the state.
Meanwhile, the new government within 20 months of its formation introduced Atal Jaldhara Mission to ensure drinking water facility to every household by December 2022, a press release issued by the state government said. “The state government has set its target to provide 60,000 water connections under Atal Jaldhara Mission this year. As many as 40,000 connections have already been provided and the remaining target will be achieved by March,” the press release added.
He said that even after more than 70 years of independence, 70% of the people living in different tribal areas across the state are facing drinking water problems just because of the poor mentality of previous Left Front government.
“I have visited several tribal areas in rural parts of the state. More than 70% of the people living in such areas raised a common demand for drinking water facilities. The previous government in its 25-year-long rule didn’t have the mentality of providing drinking water facility to all,” Deb said.
The state government will fulfil all promises mentioned in the Vision Document, he added.
He also pointed out that a total of 18 flights (including Agartala- Delhi direct flight) are operated from Tripura which is second highest in the North East Region after Assam. Apart from this, Rajdhani/ Humsafar Express/ DEMU train services are also available now.
A protocol route (waterways) in Sonamura had also been approved. Besides, he said that the Feni Bridge project would open huge trade and commerce opportunities between North East and Bangladesh.
Deb said when he would go to the people before 2023 elections and would present the ‘model’ of the state.
