Tripura govt has decided to provide dress allowance to policemen and TSR jawans

Agartala: In a first, the Tripura Cabinet has decided to provide an allowance for kits to Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and Tripura Police personnel, said law minister Ratan Lal Nath on Tuesday evening.

Addressing a press conference, Nath said that the state government has decided to provide ‘dress allowance’ to the police personnel spending an amount of Rs 20.4 crore annually.

“This is for the first time in Northeast that a state government has decided to provide dress allowance for a total of 22,201 TSR and police personnel in the state,” Nath said.

He also said that the council of ministers has decided to increase the allowances of TSR and police personnel as per the Central government’s norm. The notification would be issued soon and the amount will be transferred directly to their respective accounts every year, he added.

“Although there are 68 items required for TSR personnel and 32 items for police personnel, the government will purchase 10-15 items for each section, the amount for rest materials would be directly transferred to their accounts,” Nath said.

There are 131 Subedars, 317 Nayek Subedars, 3,747 Havildar/Nayek and 8,697 riflemen who will get a total of Rs 10,000 every year, while there are 124 Inspectors and 581 sub-inspectors who would get Rs 8,500 each per annum. There are 8,604 ASI to constable ranks and they will get Rs 7,500 each per annum.

The government will bear an expenditure of Rs 20,40,97,000 for 22,201 TSR and police personnel.

He also said that during the previous government the amount was just Rs 3,000 and 1,500, respectively, for the TSR and police respectively.

“The previous government did not take enough measures for the jawans and therefore on various occasions complaint came to the government over the dress code and kits being unavailable to the jawans. We have decided to provide allowance to the state jawans on a par with the Central government employee’s scale and now it would become easy for them to get their kits from time to time,” Nath added.
