Shillong: After media reports stating that the central government may not implement Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya, deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong claimed it to be mere speculation and also a political gimmick.
When EastMojo contacted Tyngsong concerning the media reports, he said, “I have seen the article and I would say that it is a mere speculation. We are yet to meet and will meet in the first week of January. So one cannot come to a conclusion.”

On December 19, a resolution to implement Inner Line Permit in the state of Meghalaya was passed in the state legislative assembly.
Concerning the media report, intelligence agencies have also reported that the NPP-led government had adopted the resolution to calm people’s ire after MP from Tura Agatha K Sangma had voted in favour of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.
Tyngsong claimed it to be a political move. “The opposition or people who don’t like us will make such claims and create confusion. Once again, this is mere speculation and is just trying to create confusion,” added Tynsong.
