Agartala: The Tripura police on Sunday detained a school teacher with a huge cache of contraband items worth Rs 40 lakh from Bunnang Village under Dharmanagar sub-division of North Tripura district.
Speaking with reporters, North Tripura SP Bhanupada Chakraborty said that acting on a tip-off, a team of police caught the teacher with yaba tablets while he was trying to smuggle it from his home.
“Soumen Acharjee, who is a government teacher working at Deocherra School in Dharmanagar sub-division, was caught by the police and 8,000 yaba tablets, worth Rs 40 lakh, were seized from his possession. He was trying to smuggle the contraband items when we caught him red-handed,” the superintendent said.

He also said that they had specific information about his involvement and acting onto that they caught him red-handed on Sunday afternoon.
“We are interrogating him to get more information from him and nab others involved in the trade of contraband items. He will be produced in front of the court on today and we will seek for his police custody,” Chakraborty added.
Meanwhile, in another raid conducted at a house in Rail Gate Colony near Dharmanagar sub-division, the North Tripura police seized 50 kg cannabis worth Rs 50 lakh.

“According to a tip-off, we conducted a raid in a house near the rail gate colony and arrested three persons Mohibul Islam (25) and Sohel Bhuia (27) of Assam and Samsur Rehman of (20) of Assam and seized 50 kg cannabis worth Rs 50 lakh from their possession,” Chakraborty added.
