Agartala: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Tuesday appointed Pijush Kanti Biswas as the acting president of the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC).

A press release signed by AICC general secretary KC Venugopal said, “Congress president has appointed Pijush Kanti Biswas as the acting president of Tripura Pradesh with immediate effect until a full-term president is appointed.”

Speaking with reporters, Biswas said that with the support and the dedication of the party workers, currently the Congress has more than 27% vote share. His priority now would be to bring back all those people who have either left the party or have stopped doing active politics.

“Many people have joined BJP on being disappointed over Congress. The youths are unemployed now, there is no food, water, no proper education across the state. I don’t want to say that we are coming to power but it is the people who want to throw out the BJP out of power. I have started contacting all the booth- and district-level presidents and instructed them to strengthen their committees. I have also been asked by AICC to place a road map with the strategies and plans of the party in the state. We will sit and discuss with all the senior leaders of the TPCC so that the party can function smoothly in the coming days,” Biswas said.

Biswas also said that the AICC has given him the responsibility of the TPCC and it would be his prime duty to form a united party. He has appealed all the party supporters and workers not to indulge in groupism, rather work for the sake of the party.

Former PCC president Pradyot Kishore Manikya Deb Barman also congratulated Biswas as he wrote on his Twitter account, “Congratulations to @sradvbiswas on your appointment as acting President of Tripura Congress. Had wanted him as my Working president when I was in charge of the party but was not permitted by lobbies within! He has been with Congress for a long time and not a BJP returnee.”
