Tinsukia: Chanting rhythmic slogans against Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) 2019 and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), more than 20,000 protesters participated in a rally in Assam’s Tinsukia town on Wednesday
The rally started from Bordoloi Nagar ground and culminated at the Senairam School boarding field after which a public meeting took place.
In the meantime, curfew was relaxed from 5 am to 6 pm on Wednesday. In Dibrugarh, curfew remained relaxed from 5 am to 8 pm.
Shops and business establishments in Tinsukia town opened at a slow pace on Wednesday after remaining closed for nine days. However, the markets started closing after the rally was taken out. By 2 pm, most of the market was closed.

“During this period, business activities witnessed a comeback as local transportation and banks remained functional,” a businessman, who did not wish to be named, told EastMojo.
Earlier, during the rally, protesters once again reiterated their demand to scrap the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. “We will not settle for anything less than removing this Act. The BJP cannot impose such an act on us. It violates the secular fabric of the country and is unconstitutional,” Pinky Saikia, a youth participating in the rally, told EastMojo.
The protesters were holding various placards, some read: “No CAA, BJP go back, Axom sarkar hosiyar”, and so on. One of the slogans, “Tumi jodi axomiya, ulai aaha ulai aaha (if you are an Assamese, come out, come out), seemed to gain popularity and momentum.
