Agartala smart city project: 464 CCTV cameras to ensure security

Agartala: In a bid to woo more tourists and ensure safety of people in Agartala, the Tripura government is installing 464 CCTV cameras across the region.

The Agartala Smart City Mission (ASCM) is installing CCTV cameras to keep a close eye on the movement of people and the activities happening across the city.

“In addition to 464 CCTV cameras, 81 cameras would be installed to track the vehicles violating traffic rules on city roads. Altogether, 43 machines will be installed for identification of vehicles’ number plates,” an official from ASCM said.

The department is also installing 22 integrated traffic system and smart pool sensors in six places to measure environmental pollution. Three machines have already been installed in different parts of the city.

A meeting of the advisory committee for Agartala Smart City Mission was convened on Wednesday. The meeting reviewed the work patterns and progress on the Smart City Project.

A total of 23 works have been completed to date spending a sum of Rs 16.50 crore. While 21 works are in progress which will cost an amount of Rs 233.83 crore, tenders inviting for 18 works amounting to Rs 191.91 crore are awaiting.

It is learned that a total amount of Rs 84 crore had been spent on various works under the Smart City Mission and utilisation certificates (UCs) of Rs 76 crore had been sent to the Central government from this mission.

The Master System Integrator with all modern facilities is ready to be inaugurated and the state government has expressed interest to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the inauguration of the project. As soon as Prime Minister’s office gives the positive signal, the inauguration day of this project would be finalised.
