Guwahati: With the state limping back to normalcy after massive protests against the government’s move to pass the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 in Rajya Sabha last week, which saw at least five people dead and hundreds injured, several stories of solidarity are coming to the fore.

In one such incident, a woman has been captured on camera by Team EastMojo standing her ground, quite literally, during the protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) last week. In the video, the woman is seen standing in the middle of the prominent Guwahati-Shillong Road, popularly known as GS Road, near Assam secretariat, on Wednesday afternoon.

Despite stones being pelted and the security personnel running after the protesters to lathicharge, the woman is seen defying the war-like situation and instead raising anti-CAA slogans.

Her bold act of solidarity needs to be highlighted. EastMojo requests its viewers and well-wishers to identify and trace the woman so that she gets the due recognition.

Assam boiled and simmered as the controversial CAB was made into an Act last week. The Act seeks to grant Indian citizenship to Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis and Christians, if they faced religious persecution in Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Non-Muslim applicants from Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan would be given Indian citizenship if they have stayed in India for five years, instead of 11 years, which was the rule untill now.
