Shillong: Amidst ongoing protests against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB), 2019 in Meghalaya, miscreants set a car on fire in Police Bazar area of leading to complete shutdown of the commercial hub of state capital Shillong.
As per ground reports, miscreants burnt a car and clothes of a shop from the market area.
It is said that the shops belonged to non-tribals residing in Meghalaya. The whole market was shut down after the incident.
In another incident of vandalism, a car was burnt down in Jaiaw area of Shillong.
Massive protests against CAB are taking place across Northeast. The Bill was passed in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday after getting a nod in Lok Sabha on Monday.
The Bill seeks to grant Indian citizenship to Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis and Christians if they faced religious persecution in Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
