Guwahati: Keeping in view the objectives of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, TIPKAI organised a marathon from Nehru Stadium to Khanapara veterinary field in Guwahati, Assam on Sunday.
Some of the people who attended the event included Lakhya Konwar, member secretary of state-level advisory committee for student and youth welfare; Mrigen Sarania, district president of BJP, Mukuta Deka, vice-chairman of GMDA; Rajesh Pandey, director of sports and youth welfare and Assamese actor Nayan Nilim.
Speaking with EastMojo, actor Nayan Nilim said “We can never force anyone about Swachhata. It should come from the heart of the people. If we want to keep our city clean, then we can.”
People from all age groups participated in the run. Winners of the marathon were awarded with cash prizes and medals at Khanapara veterinary field. While Dinesh Kumar won the first place in the ‘boys’ senior’ category, Sanidul Islam came second.
In the women’s category, Matowara Ahmed bagged the first place and Dipamoni Deka stood second. While Bishal Singh clinched the first prize in the junior boys/girls category, BN Tiwari bagged the top spot in the ‘senior citizens’ list.
“We started this marathon in the year 2017. This run is all about Swachhata and we are also trying to make people aware about cleanliness,” said Bhaswati, event organiser.
Since 2017, TIPKAI has been organising the marathon to create awareness among the people of Assam regarding open defecation, cleanliness, hygiene, waste segregation and sanitation. It is a contribution to ‘Clean India’ and a better India.
The programme was organised in association with State Level Advisory Committee for Student and Youth Welfare (SLAC) and Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) which is also supported by the directorate of sports and youth welfare and Assam Tourism Department Corporation, among others.
