Tinsukia: The Dao division of the Indian Army facilitated 47 youths from the backward areas of Assam’s Tinsukia district in finding employment in the tourism and hotel management industry.
The army collaborated with ‘Project Swabalamban’ — a joint venture of Oil India Ltd and Pragati Edutech — to empower the local youth in skill development for tourism and hotel management courses.
Speaking with EastMojo, a senior officer in the Army said that the role of the Army is identification of the potential youth from far-flung and remote areas and ensure their placement in renowned business entities. “We were instrumental in encouraging them to take up the courses for a bright career,” he said.
“The first batch comprised of 47 youths with 100% placement,” the officer said, adding that the second batch is underway, while the third batch will start from January. “We are expecting more strength in the coming batches,” he added.
The youths, selected for Project Swabalamban, are being provided three months’ free training in Guwahati, with Oil India Limited looking after the finance part while the training part is being taken care of by Pragati Edutech.
The officer said: “The importance of the project lies in raising hope among the families living in remote areas, giving their children employment and a better future.”
“This will not just dither ULFA (I) attempts to brainwash such unemployed youths and mislead them, but may also motivate cadres of militants organizations towards a bright future if they join the mainstream,” the officer said, appealing the cadres to come and join the mainstream and work for a better future and career.
